Shakespeare wasn't the only playwright creating theatre during the Elizabethan period, and a lot of his contemporaries, like Ben Johnson, Thomas Kyd, Christopher Marlowe and others used similar styles and features while writing their plays. These shared elements were the conventions of Elizabethan theatre.
Conventions of the time period included characters in disguise, eavesdropping and wearing masks; boys playing women; stories about the upper class and presentational acting. You can find more about what all this means in the video!
Other modern media have conventions too, like superhero movies! Once you've identified superhero conventions and designed your own superhero, send them to us at info@summitplayerstheatre.com - we can't wait to see what you come up with!
